Restoration Details:

Half of the
planks above the waterline and portions of the interior
paneling are original.

New Wood:
Keel, stem, and forefoot are Angelique (South American).
-
Knees are
locust and laminated ash.
-
Hull is
double planked (Sikaflex between layers) South American
Silver Bali.
-
Garboards and
first broad planks are single planked Angelique.
-
Sheer planks
are mahogany.
-
Foredeck and
cabin tops are 2 layers of Sapele mahogany plywood
covered with fiberglass cloth and painted with non-skid
Awlgrip epoxy.
-
Deck and
cabin beams are sawn white oak.
-
Main cabin
paneling is white cedar with mahogany trim.
-
Counter top
is locust.
-
Transom is 2
layers of 3/8” white cedar and one layer of 9/16”
mahogany glued together with epoxy.
-
Bilge
stringers, sheer clamps, deck shelf, etc. are all
vertical grain Douglas fir.
-
Floor frames,
transom framing, and engine beds are black locust.
-
All soles,
cabin structure, and exterior trim are teak.
-
Bulkheads are
raised panels of cedar or teak glued to plywood panels.
-
Original
hardware is Monel and bronze.
-
New hardware
and fabrications are bronze.
-
ARIEL II's
tender and davit system were constructed from her
original plans from MIT.
