MALABAR, hull # 1407, is an original Herreshoff 12 1/2 built by the Herreshoff Manufacturing company in 1937.  We rebuilt her with Oak frames and stem, Cedar planking, Locust deadwood and Mahogany shear, coamings and transom.  Below is a collection of pictures from her restoration. You can also see a photo essay in WoodenBoat (Jan/Feb issue) on MALABAR.

The below images chronicle her transformation. Click on the thumbnails to see a larger version of each image. You can either click on the individual tiles or scroll through by clicking to the right of the big image to go next and clicking to the left to go to the previous big image.

Ben My Chree, resoration at BallentinesCurrently we are restoring CAPTAIN KIDD, Hull # 1298, a 1936 Herreshoff 12 1/2. Unlike MALABAR, she is trimmed in Oak and will have a Gaff rig. We plan to have her ready for launch this spring.

Once the KIDD is happily floating we will tackle L. F. Herreshoff's historic BEN MY CHREE or "Ben" (pictured right) who is patiently awaiting a similar restoration.  BEN was the prototype for the Stuart Knockabout and the only original wooden boat built to this design. Her restoration is slotted for Summer 2011, stay tuned for pictures and updates.
